In the end, I would rule against the druid regaining uses of Wild Shape while in their alternate form because they aren't truly resting it is too stressful on the druid's body. They can rest in their alternate form but regaining transformations isn't an issue.) As well, once the character reaches the 20th level of Druid Wild Shape has unlimited uses, suggesting it is (finally) completely effortless for the character to maintain. So, on some level, the character must be focused on maintaining the form and is expending some reserve of energy to do so. It also automatically ends if you are unconscious, drop to 0 HP, or die. ![]() ![]() Wild Shape ends after X of hours (X = 1/2 druid level) per number of 'uses' you consume (consuming one each instance the time runs out), so it cannot be maintained indefinitely. A wizard / shifter still has a HD cap (as both Polymorph self and Greater Wildshape have), but the duration of GWS is unlimited unless the native form is regained. So, no HD cap, no duration limit, and all 'Ex' abilities and racial boni are gained. So it is up to the DM to decide just how stressful being a beast actually is. I played as Gray Mouser back then.ģ0 years on and I begin exploring DND 5E and the Forgotten Realms.lo and behold, there is Luskan, Red Larch, and Waterdeep (where Mirt the Moneylender has a bunch of my deposits and I am owed 30+ years of interest!). Think it was just coming out as I was last playing as the DM had me take care of a Luskan Assassin and I ended up 'retiring' in a small estate keep in the Red Larch area. Greyhawk was treasure when I picked that up. Always thought about DM'ing and even have old notes on a campaign I was building. Ended up with DMG and MM, along with all subsequent books to hit the stands back then. I started in the mid-80's using just the PHB, sometime in my 30's. And, nice handle.former AD&D player?Ĩ yrs old I picked up the D&D blue box out of my parents' gaming shelf, never turned back! Going on over 30 years of gaming now, most of it in the DM's chair. ![]()
